ROOT CANAL TREATMENT
Endodontic treatment is needed when tooth decay has reached the dental nerve and has started to damage its structure. By removing dead tissue in time and successfully treating the root canals, the tooth can often be saved, making extraction unnecessary.
Endodontics is the treatment of the inside of the tooth. Its goal is to preserve the patient’s own tooth, even when the dental nerve is already diseased. The most common condition treated in endodontics is inflammation inside the root canal. The inside of the tooth consists of the pulp tissue and dental nerves, which run through the root canals. Deep cavities can reach these canals, allowing bacteria to enter the nerve tissue and cause inflammation, often accompanied by severe pain. Root canal treatment helps in these cases.
Root Canal Treatment
The aim of root canal treatment is to remove tissue residues from the root canal and reduce bacteria inside the canal system. Thanks to modern treatment techniques, it is now possible to preserve around 80 to 90% of affected teeth with root canal therapy.
Whether root canal treatment and tooth preservation are possible must be carefully assessed. With 3D CBCT X-rays, precise diagnosis is much easier today. Digital X-ray imaging allows the affected tooth to be viewed from different angles and at high magnification, enabling highly accurate diagnostics.
Microscopic Endodontics: Precision at the Highest Level
Microscopic endodontics represents the highest standard of modern tooth-preserving dentistry, combining precision with advanced technology. By using a dental microscope, we achieve maximum control over every detail, allowing us to identify even the finest structures of the root canal system and treat them with exceptional accuracy.
The result is thorough removal of infection, optimal sealing of the canals and long-term preservation of the natural tooth.
This type of treatment is an ideal choice for complex cases, such as deep inflammation, repeated endodontic procedures or complex root canal anatomy. Microscopic endodontics offers patients a higher success rate, as well as a gentle, comfortable and aesthetically oriented approach that meets the highest standards of modern dental care.
Root Canal Treatment Procedure
To make the treatment as painless as possible, root canal therapy is usually performed under local anaesthesia. First, the dentist creates access to the root canal system. Damaged tooth tissue and inflamed or dead nerve tissue are then removed.
The root canals are carefully cleaned, shaped and disinfected. They may be filled with an antibacterial medication and temporarily sealed. At the next appointment, if no complications occur, the tooth is permanently sealed with a filling.
Re-Endodontic Treatment
Re-endodontic treatment means retreatment of the root canals. This is necessary when the root canal system has already been treated in the past, but the treatment was not performed correctly or not all root canals were found and treated.
